Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy XIV “version 2.0” will now be released as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The title will be coming to both PlayStation 3 and PC sometime soon.

Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn:

“Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new FINAL FANTASY XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the FINAL FANTASY series. I hope you’re looking forward to it!”

A Realm Reborn has been built from the ground up and features a new storyline and world to explore, with many major updates presenting a “rebirth” of Final Fantasy XIV: Online.

More information can be found on Final Fantasy XIV’s new and official website.

  • This video looks really cool. We’ll see how the game plays when it comes out.

  • Sadly this game will still probably fail, even if it’s the best MMO ever constructed. After failing as bad as the first version did, very few people want to risk sinking their money into this.

Good press could save it, you never with these things. Unfortunately, they are in a tough spot, but if they listened to what people said they wanted, people should respond positively to it.

When this comes to the PS3 I’m totally buying it. I won’t make any judgments until I play the revised version myself.

  • Wonder if this will eventually come to WiiU.

    • Back when it was first announced, it was also made clear that the console version is PS3 exclusive. I imagine that Sony struck some sort of financial deal with Square Enix to make that happen, and I doubt that it’s been voided by the turmoil that the game went through. If it ever does come to other consoles, it won’t be any time soon.

The video is interesting indeed, but the first trailer for the original game was impressive as well. I don’t know much about MMO’s but if it’s fun then I will check it out on PS3.
