Nintendo of Japan have revealed the latest DLC character for Fire Emblem: Awakening, Ike.

Ike first appeared in Path of Radiance, for Nintendo Gamecube, which was the first home console Fire Emblem game to be given a western release. He also appeared in the Wii‘s follow up: Radiant Dawn and was a playable character in Super Smash Bros Brawl.

Its interesting to note that his right arm seems to have been replaced by a sword. What sort of mischief has Sir Ike been up to, hmm?

According to the official website, this round of DLC will be available on the 26th July, in Japan, and will cost 400 Yen.

Fire Emblem: Awakening is coming to the United States and Europe in 2013. Nintendo has said the Western release will feature “a robust amount of DLC”, so odds are American and European fans will get to play as Ike as well.

About David Rawlings

David Rawlings, or ‘Rawky’ as we like to call him, joined the Operation Rainfall Campaign at the beginning. He’s British and found solace with us as he was able to understand our pain about Nintendo and their localizing faux pas. He’s a big fan of the letter ‘U’ and refuses to remove them from words, even though we constantly ask him to. He also believes it’s about time Princess Daisy got kidnapped.

Finally Ike arrives! But his arm is kinda disturbing…

    • I liked that he just up and disappeared after Radiant Dawn. Explaining what happened to his arm will be pretty interesting, nonetheless. I’m happy there are so many cameos in Awakening. Really shaping up the be the best FE experience.

    • XypherCode

Actually I wouldn’t want him with that arm if ever there’s a new FE game where he’s the main character.

    • It looks more like a ‘letter opener’ than it does a sword…

  • It’s just a manner of perspective, isn’t it? His arm is away from the viewer, naturally the hand (wearing a leather glove) would seem smaller to the viewer’s eye. The sword only appears to have no guard on the hilt, is all.

    • You may be right. But… that sword isn’t Ragnell, if that’s the case. I wonder what he comes equipped with.

    • probably ettard, his unique sword from radiant dawn.

  • I think the sword arm is actually a matter of foreshortening. It just looks like the sword is part of his arm, but it really is further back in the background. On another note, I wonder if he can use Aether in Awakening.

    • I have to say that this design for Ike is not nearly as good as his design in radiant dawn. He was a freaking vanguard in that game and he was really strong and muscular. This design seems to be him right after Path of Radiance when he was still a teenage stick. I have to say that the pose the artist chose for him in this could have been a lot better. The wonky perspective is throwing everything off balance. I have no idea why they went with this new version. If Ike is in the new Smash Bros, I hope he does not look like this.

i wonder how much DLC will cost here? hopefully not too expensive. i’m excited about this game.

  • John Ellis

I haven’t played any 3DS games with DLC yet, does it download to your system or the cartridge?

    • I dont think any have dlc outside japan yet. Id assume to the cartridge, maybe sd card.

    • I’m pretty sure Ettard is a deeper shade of grey. It looks like a generic blade to me.

  • In addition to Marth and Roy, I get to recuit Ike in this game? And he has a freakin’ SWORD for an arm!?

It’s clear that I have to invent a time machine, now. The wait until 2013 is too unbearable!

  • If you look carefully, you can see that he is holding the sword, and that the sword is Gladiator-style. What makes the art confusing is the fact that his sword is leaning toward the inside of his leg, which makes the perspective a bit off. Other than that, it’s nice artwork.

  • If you check the source you’ll see a boss that got killed in path of radiance,Id imagine this is path of radiance ike. i wonder what/his story is.

  • Now that I look closely at it, it does look like his arm has been replaced with a sword. The armor on what is visible on his right arm looks more like the armor he has on the upper part of his left arm of than the lower part. Then again, Ike has never been one for symmetrical armor and a sword on one’s elbow would be stupidly awkward and have much less reach.

  • I’m sorry but that artwork looks really stupid…

  • I’m pretty sure it’s just the perspective. At least I hope so, because I think giving him a sword for an arm is ridiculous.

If you take a closer look at it, you can see the golden ring and then silver on his right gauntlet, which you can also see on the left. IS shouldn’t have released such an ambiguous image. I wonder if they’re reading debates like this one and giggling to themselves.

  • I was way happier than any man should be at news of a video game when I heard of Ike’s return but what is this? He’s like a frankenstein. I want Radiant Dawn Ike back.

  • Morrison105076

    hey i got a question…
so does his sword arm have durability points?
and if so what happens after it breaks?
and what about the next weapon that he equips?
does it replace his sword arm?
