In a bit of a surprise to nearly everyone, it was revealed during the Japanese Nintendo Direct video that the new Super Smash Bros. game will have NAMCO BANDAI Games and NAMCO BANDAI Studios as part of the main development team alongside Sora and Nintendo.  Masahiro Sakurai, lead developer of Kid Icarus: Uprising, will be the game director.

An impressive amount of names have been listed on the NAMCO BANDAI side of things.  Included in the development of the game are Yoshito Higuchi (one of the main developers of Tales of Vesperia, Tales of the Abyss, and the SoulCalibur series), Tetsuya Akatsuka (director from the SoulCalibur and Moblie Suit Gundam series), Masaya Kobayashi, (main developer of the Ridge Racer series), and the main development team from the Tekken series.

So what does this all mean?  Quite simply, the next Super Smash Bros. will more than likely be one of the best fighting games ever made.  And, we can probably expect some NAMCO BANDAI characters to pop up in the game.

There is one downside.  The game is still very early in development.  So let’s be patient as we wait for this game.
